Fasting on the Day of Arafah
As most of us are unable to perform the Haj this year here is something that we can do on that day.
Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah’s peace and blessing be upon him) said: "Fasting on the day of Arafat is an expiation for two years', the year preceding it and the year following it. Fasting the day of Ashurah is an expiation for the year preceding it." (Imams Muslim, Abu Dawood, Ibn Majah and Nisaie).
Imam Tirmizi comments: "The scholars prefer that the day of Arafat be fasted unless one is actually at Arafat."
Let's take this opportunity of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala Blessing and fast on this day.
Please remember that in some countries the 9th Dhul Hijjah may fall on a different day due to the different calendars but we must fast on on Saturday 31st January as this is the day when the pilgrims will be Standing in Arafat supplicating Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. People normally fast the 9th Dhul Hijjah as per their calendars (one day ahead or one day behind) and as a result they miss the Day of Arafat.
May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala reward and Forgive each and every one and Save the Ummah which is presently facing very difficult time. Ameen!
