74:1 | يَاأَيُّهَا المُدَّثِّرُ O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! Ya 'Ayyuha Al-Muddaththiru |
74:2 | قُم فَأَنذِر Arise and warn! Qum Fa'andhir |
74:3 | وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّر And your Lord (Allah) magnify! Wa Rabbaka Fakabbir |
74:4 | وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّر And your garments purify! Wa Thiyabaka Faţahhir |
74:5 | وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهجُر And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! Wa Ar-Rujza Fahjur |
74:6 | وَلاَ تَمنُنتَستَكثِرُ And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). Wa La Tamnun Tastakthiru |
74:7 | وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصبِر And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! Wa Lirabbika Faşbir |
74:8 | فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); Fa'idha Nuqira Fi An-Naqūri |
74:9 | فَذَلِكَ يَومَئِذ ٍ يَومٌ عَسِير ٌ Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. Fadhalika Yawma'idhin Yawmun `Asirun |
74:10 | عَلَى الكَافِرِينَ غَيرُ يَسِير ٍ Far from easy for the disbelievers. `Alá Al-Kafirina Ghayru Yasirin |
74:11 | ذَرنِي وَمَن خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدا ً Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! Dharni Wa Man Khalaqtu Waĥidaan |
74:12 | وَجَعَلتُ لَه ُُ مَالا ً مَمدُودا ً And then granted him resources in abundance. Wa Ja`altu Lahu Malaan Mamdūdaan |
74:13 | وَبَنِينَ شُهُودا ً And children to be by his side! Wa Banina Shuhūdaan |
74:14 | وَمَهَّدْتُ لَه ُُ تَمهِيدا ً And made life smooth and comfortable for him! Wa Mahhadtu Lahu Tamhidaan |
74:15 | ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَن أَزِيدَ After all that he desires that I should give more; Thumma Yaţma`u 'An 'Azida |
74:16 | كَلاَّ إِنَّه ُُ كَانَ لِأيَاتِنَا عَنِيدا ً Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). Kalla 'Innahu Kana Li'yatina `Anidaan |
74:17 | سَأُرهِقُه ُُ صَعُودا ً I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called AsSa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! Sa'urhiquhu Şa`ūdaan |
74:18 | إِنَّه ُُ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ Verily, he thought and plotted; 'Innahu Fakkara Wa Qaddara |
74:19 | فَقُتِلَ كَيفَ قَدَّرَ So let him be cursed! How he plotted! Faqutila Kayfa Qaddara |
74:20 | ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيفَ قَدَّرَ And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! Thumma Qutila Kayfa Qaddara |
74:21 | ثُمَّ نَظَرَ Then he thought; Thumma Nažara |
74:22 | ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; Thumma `Abasa Wa Basara |
74:23 | ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَاستَكبَرَ Then he turned back and was proud; Thumma 'Adbara Wa Astakbara |
74:24 | فَقَالَ إِن هَذَا إِلاَّ سِحر ٌ يُؤثَرُ Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; Faqala 'In Hadha 'Illa Siĥrun Yu'utharu |
74:25 | إِن هَذَا إِلاَّ قَولُ البَشَرِ "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 'In Hadha 'Illa Qawlu Al-Bashari |
74:26 | سَأُصلِيه ِِ سَقَرَ I will cast him into Hell-fire Sa'uşlihi Saqara |
74:27 | وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سَقَرُ And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? Wa Ma 'Adraka Ma Saqaru |
74:28 | لاَ تُبْقِي وَلاَ تَذَرُ It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! La Tubqi Wa La Tadharu |
74:29 | لَوَّاحَة ٌ لِلبَشَرِ Burning the skins! Lawwaĥatun Lilbashari |
74:30 | عَلَيهَا تِسعَةَ عَشَرَ Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). `Alayha Tis`ata `Ashara |
74:31 | وَمَا جَعَلنَا أَصحَابَ النَّارِ إِلاَّ مَلاَئِكَة ً وَمَا جَعَلنَا عِدَّتَهُم إِلاَّ فِتنَة ً لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيَستَيقِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الكِتَابَ وَيَزدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيمَانا ً وَلاَ يَرتَابَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الكِتَابَ وَالمُؤمِنُونَ وَلِيَقُولَ الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِممَرَض ٌ وَالكَافِرُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَذَا مَثَلا ً كَذَلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ مَنيَشَاءُ وَيَهدِي مَنيَشَاءُ وَمَا يَعلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلاَّ هُوَ وَمَا هِيَ إِلاَّ ذِكرَى لِلبَشَرِ And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Qur'an is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Qur'an is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example ?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. Wa Ma Ja`alna 'Aşĥaba An-Nari 'Illa Mala'ikatan Wa Ma Ja`alna `Iddatahum 'Illa Fitnatan Lilladhina Kafarū Liyastayqina Al-Ladhina 'Ūtū Al-Kitaba Wa Yazdada Al-Ladhina 'Āmanū 'Īmanaan Wa La Yartaba Al-Ladhina 'Ūtū Al-Kitaba Wa Al-Mu'uminūna Wa Liyaqūla Al-Ladhina Fi Qulūbihim Marađun Wa Al-Kafirūna Madha 'Arada Allahu Bihadha Mathalaan Kadhalika Yuđillu Allahu Man Yasha'u Wa Yahdi Man Yasha'u Wa Ma Ya`lamu Junūda Rabbika 'Illa Huwa Wa Ma Hiya 'Illa Dhikrá Lilbashari |
74:32 | كَلاَّ وَالقَمَرِ Nay, and by the moon, Kalla Wa Al-Qamari |
74:33 | وَاللَّيلِ إِذ أَدْبَرَ And by the night when it withdraws, Wa Al-Layli 'Idh 'Adbara |
74:34 | وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا أَسفَرَ And by the dawn when it brightens, Wa Aş-Şubĥi 'Idha 'Asfara |
74:35 | إِنَّهَا لَإِحدَى الكُبَرِ Verily, it (Hell, or their denial of the Prophet Muhammad SAW , or the Day of Resurrection) is but one of the greatest calamities. 'Innaha La'iĥdá Al-Kubari |
74:36 | نَذِيرا ً لِلبَشَرِ A warning to mankind, Nadhiraan Lilbashari |
74:37 | لِمَنشَاءَ مِنْكُم أَنيَتَقَدَّمَ أَو يَتَأَخَّرَ To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), Liman Sha'a Minkum 'An Yataqaddama 'Aw Yata'akhkhara |
74:38 | كُلُّ نَفس ٍ بِمَا كَسَبَت رَهِينَة ٌ Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, Kullu Nafsin Bima Kasabat Rahinahun |
74:39 | إِلاَّ أَصحَابَ اليَمِينِ Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism); 'Illa 'Aşĥaba Al-Yamini |
74:40 | فِي جَنَّات ٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, Fi Jannatin Yatasa'alūna |
74:41 | عَنِ المُجْرِمِينَ About Al-Mujrimun (polytheists, criminals, disbelievers, etc.), (And they will say to them): `Ani Al-Mujrimina |
74:42 | مَا سَلَكَكُم فِي سَقَرَ "What has caused you to enter Hell?" Ma Salakakum Fi Saqara |
74:43 | قَالُوا لَم نَكُ مِنَ المُصَلِّينَ They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers). Qalū Lam Naku Mina Al-Muşallina |
74:44 | وَلَم نَكُ نُطْعِمُ المِسكِينَ "Nor we used to feed Al-Miskin (the poor); Wa Lam Naku Nuţ`imu Al-Miskina |
74:45 | وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الخَائِضِينَ "And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. Wa Kunna Nakhūđu Ma`a Al-Kha'iđina |
74:46 | وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَومِ الدِّينِ "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense. Wa Kunna Nukadhdhibu Biyawmi Ad-Dini |
74:47 | حَتَّى أَتَانَا اليَقِينُ "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." Ĥattá 'Atana Al-Yaqinu |
74:48 | فَمَا تَنْفَعُهُم شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. Fama Tanfa`uhum Shafa`atu Ash-Shafi`ina |
74:49 | فَمَا لَهُم عَنِ التَّذكِرَةِ مُعرِضِينَ Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? Fama Lahum `Ani At-Tadhkirati Mu`riđina |
74:50 | كَأَنَّهُم حُمُر ٌ مُستَنْفِرَة ٌ As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. Ka'annahum Ĥumurun Mustanfirahun |
74:51 | فَرَّت مِنقَسوَرَة ٍ Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey Farrat Min Qaswarahin |
74:52 | بَل يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امرِئ ٍ مِنهُم أَنيُؤتَى صُحُفا ً مُنَشَّرَة ً Nay, everyone of them desires that he should be given pages spread out (coming from Allah with a writing that Islam is the right religion, and Muhammad SAW has come with the truth from Allah the Lord of the heavens and earth, etc.). Bal Yuridu Kullu Amri'in Minhum 'An Yu'utá Şuĥufaan Munashsharahan |
74:53 | كَلاَّ بَللاَ يَخَافُونَ الآخِرَةَ Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). Kalla Bal La Yakhafūna Al-'Ākhiraha |
74:54 | كَلاَّ إِنَّه ُُ تَذكِرَة ٌ Nay, verily, this (Qur'an) is an admonition, Kalla 'Innahu Tadhkirahun |
74:55 | فَمَنشَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ So whosoever will (let him read it), and receive admonition (from it)! Faman Sha'a Dhakarahu |
74:56 | وَمَا يَذكُرُونَ إِلاَّ أَنيَشَاءَ اللَّهُ هُوَ أَهلُ التَّقْوَى وَأَهلُ المَغفِرَةِ And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). Wa Ma Yadhkurūna 'Illa 'An Yasha'a Allahu Huwa 'Ahlu At-Taqwá Wa 'Ahlu Al-Maghfirahi |
